The reporting on the Tesla App outage is getting basic facts wrong. Only remote access to car controls were affected by the outage

Any driver who is using a phone paired to a car as their key could still access their car and drive as normal.

What was affected was using the app to do anything. Walking up to the car and having it unlock worked. Sitting in your office and trying to unlock it through the app didn't work.

Much of the reporting is saying or implying that owners couldn't get into their cars if the walked up to them and tried to open the doors. They also reported the cars couldn't be driven which is also wrong.
