As long as it isn't a super short connection at Dulles, that routing seems logical.

Dulles isn't a super huge hub but it's not small. Some of the Unite gates can take a little bit of time to get from one to the other, but as long as you have a little buffer you'll be fine.
NB: I never take 30 or 40 minute connections at any airport because I just don't trust 30 or 40 minute connections.
