I also disagree because in the end, it may very well be family members that will be on the hook for the cost

My dad died of cancer and was a smoker his whole life. There's no doubt his habits lead to his disease, even though he knew very well what it could lead to.
I'm happy that he still got treatments and end-of-life care, because that could have ruined the rest of my family if his habits and decisions were a reason to deny coverage.
In the end I accept that I have to pay for other people's decisions and way of life, even though I disagree with them.
