A Very Special Christmas came out in the 80s and I’d say this was a renaissance in Christmas music.

The first generation of contemporary Christmas music was the 40’s with Sinatra, Bing, Judy, Nat, etc. After that, there was a trickle until the 80s, and since then, more trickle.
