My work team volunteers at a space that teaches children budgeting/financial literacy. It's great, but simultaneously heartbreaking.

The high level: The kids get assigned a job at the beginning, and told that they have a salary of $X, and whether they have kids, and such. They then have to make decisions i.e. where to live, amount they go out to eat, entertainment options, etc. All of those decisions cost money. The end goal showing what they save etc. each month.
The children that attend tend to be from lower income areas, and it's a learning experience every time.
Last time I had a kid get assigned $100k/year as a salary with no kids. He literally thought he was living like a king. He'd never thought of a dollar amount that high in his life.
They all quickly realize decisions have an impact on their amount saved every month.
