It can be very useful. There are different plans and some like an accident only plan can be helpful if something happens.

You need to know your pet and if they're likely to need to see the vet often. Some eat a lot of things or get a lot of ear infections and for them the insurance will be worth it.
If the pet is likely to injure itself it will be worth it.
Sure, many pets will live relatively healthy lives and not need to see the vet besides vaccines and check-ups. But if there's an incident where they need surgery or to stay in a pet hospital you'll be very glad you have the insurance.
