She just simply wasn't getting pregnant. In those days I don't think they tested any fertility of men. I suspect the dr. told my mother she was

capable of having kids and suggested it. In those days there was a stigma around these kinds of things so she just did it. Never told my father and even though she told my older sister a lot of things (many that my other sister and I never knew) she never told her this one.
