volunteer projects. The fact that they were ever considered and that someone(s) took the time and effort to write code and maintaining the central resource to organize all those compute cycles is a glimmer of hope.
While on an individual basis, humans can be found wanting, I hang on to the ideal that humanity as a whole is a positive.
