In response to "YDC: My thoughts on COVID, since I realize people may not understand my take." by MDH

A couple of points to consider.

We know it's not going away. The issue is how to manage the impact on the healthcare system. For instance, my brother runs a hospital in rural KY that normally has 15 ICU beds. At the peak of Delta, they had 134 critical COVID patients. No hospital can function like that. That's why we need restrictions. We need to keep the caseload down to a level where hospitals don't collapse.

Another point is that the vaccines aren't "done." Some vaccines or combination of vaccines can and will cover multiple variants, so development is continuing.

Also continuing is research into medicines and treatments.

The biggest issue in the US, honestly, is the large number of antivaxxers. Look, I understand some of these people just cannot be reached. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Unlike the other factors discussed, this is something that can be changed with the right leadership and messaging. I lay this squarely at the feet of the Trump cult and right wing media. Only they have the access and influence.

I didn't have a nice summary written out, just some random thoughts.
