I'm surprised they even measure it that way. I didn't think any of its sensors were optical. -- nm

They're still light sensing pixels. They're just at a different wavelength. -- nm

I hadn't thought of looking into it until now, but apparently it ranges from near-infrared to mid-infrared. They want to be able to see older stars.
