If you trade a third round pick, you're saying you will only keep two players.

If you trade a pick that you guarantee is in the top 36 picks, the previous definition of the first three rounds, it's up to you to ensure that this happens.
Hunting is getting too wrapped up in the previous usage of first round, second round, etc.
In the 2021 draft, the top three rounds consisted of just 15 picks.
So, what players should be doing is asking for positional guarantees. "This pick will be no later than #20 in the draft..." and so forth.
