I backboarded to the part where Ty asked if rock music was dead and I got so angry... so so angry. -- nm

I'm with ty97, I think there are multiple dead genres, and rock is one of them. Same with rap.

You may not like it but it doesn't mean it's dead. -- nm

Yeah, but the current list is the Top 20 for 2021 and admittedly it has less rock than usual. Though that was a deliberate choice.

But I think a lot of stuff that isn't rock is rock-inspired anyway. If it weren't for this, we'd all still be singing like Doris Day and Al Jolson. -- nm

It's not that rock is dead, it's that radio is dead. And SirusXM will be next if they don't watch it. -- nm

My truck has an XM thingy built in. Have never regularly used it.

I can believe that radio is dead. I haven't listed to normal radio in years. I listen to XM regularly though. -- nm

On occasion I'll listen to Octane and Alt Nation and they're doing a modest job at aping what a terrestrial rock station might play. But obviously...

I certainly could see a compelling argument suggesting that. Many of my favorite current 'rock' bands are multi-genre. Grandson, Badflower.

I left out a lot of things in my list I would consider "alternative". But worrying about genre is kind of an Old Person thing now. -- nm

Which is my favorite Tracey Thorn song. She is the girl from Everything But The Girl which isn't rock music, but still darn good. -- nm*

Such a distinctive voice. She did the soundtrack to one of the films I worked on (The Falling) which was Florence Pugh's film debut. -- nm
