It's not how I personally want to play it, but I only have about half the programmer/algorithmic mindset. Creating a program to figure out strategies requires you to think about how it's actually constructed is a *harder* puzzle, not cheating to make it easier. The novelty is immediately exhausted, but that's also part and parcel of having that kind of brain. It's an itch that has to be scratched for them. You value a different part of the puzzle and neither of you are wrong.
