It’s pretty much what you expect, but A LOT of people go on the record, including Survivor and The Amazing Race contestant Mike White.
A lot of distress over a perception that white male writers can’t get a job.
“This is all going to end in a giant class-action lawsuit.”
Obviously, cry me a river. This tweet from Natalie Morales says it all:
“For fucks sake, please stop blaming ‘diversity hires’ for why your client isn’t getting a job. It’s either that you’re not working hard enough or that they’re not good enough. Be honest with them. You are harming us.”
The problem isn’t what’s going on in the writers room. It’s that the top executives are still white men. So to cover their asses, they’re doing things to make themselves look good. Any whiff of impropriety immediately results in reactionary behavior… suspensions and firings. And those at the lower ranks feel the brunt of these consequences.
