It's the ease of access (and low/no cost to access) all this old music that is driving this trend, I would think.

You're not wrong, every generation discovers the classics. But *access* to the classic was always pretty limited. Some greatest hits album (you had to buy) or some old album your parents had (that they bought)
Now it's just all...there on spotify
