MDH -- if you think Ghostbusters 3.5, and AQP outperformed, yikes.

A Quiet Place 1 made 188mil. When they green lit a sequel, they did not expect a 20% pull-back, yet, they got one from 188mil down to 160mil.
Ghostbusters:Afterlife barely outdrew the 2016 reboot 128-126mil. You don't greenlight a sequel with the original cast to barely outperform the maligned 2016 version.
Carnage -- did exactly the same total as the 2018 original. Again, that's not outperforming. No one greenlights sequels hoping to maintain status quo.
They out did limited expectations but none of those out did the earlier sources to any degree worthy of continuing onward to a minor factor like runtime.
And Free Guy -- yes, Free Guy did very well. Every year, there's a few movies that blow up -- those aren't because of run time; but because they just have some je ne sais quo factor that causes them to be successful. In this case, it was inventive with a fun lead actor. If they could have kept the fun for 30 more minutes, it would have done just as well.
Run time isn't a real factor.
