They didn't just overperform, they massively overperformed expectations in COVID. This is all linked to expectations in COVID.

Did Quiet Place 2 beat #1, no. Did it overperform expectations in COVID, absolutely. Run time was a big factor.
Ghostbusters was expected to make between $60-80M in COVID . Granted the reviews also didn't help. It massively overperformed that. Theaters kept bringing it back. It's a family movie that did well, partially due to run time.
Venom 2 was MASSIVE compared to COVID expectations.
I'll put it this way, a friend of mine is decently high up at a studio. Run time is a real threat now. The background on rush updates to West Side Story proves it. They are all hoping they catch Spider-man in terms of outlier, and they know they won't.
2 years ago it wasn't a factor, it 100% is now.
