Here's the top 10 domestic films of 2021 with run times. -- (edited)

1) No Way Home - 2 hours 28 minutes
2) Shang Chi - 2 hours 12 minutes
3) Venom 2: 1 hour 37 minutes
4) Black Widow 2 hours 14 minutes
5) F9 - 2 hours 23 minutes
6) Eternals - 2 hours 36 minutes
7) No Time To Die - 2 hours 43 minutes
8) A Quiet Place 2 - 1 hour 37 minutes
9) Ghostbusters: Afterlife: 2 hours 4 minutes
10) Free Guy - 1 hour 55 minutes

Not sure where you're getting the idea that short run time movies did better or overperformed. Shang Chi and No Way Home were the biggest surprises of the year and both were well over 2 hours, and were the two biggest films overall.
