In total $225M is an underperform for a Marvel movie, but we had COVID, and it's the first Shang Chi movie. The last Disney Marvel movie to make less than $225M was Ant-Man 2 in 2018, and before that Doctor Strange in 2016. That's a pretty solid track record of huge Marvel movies.
I do disagree with the "no one thought it was going to make that." It's similar to Black Panther, a lot of people totally did not see the support in a minority group for the movie. It was there, and some people knew, but it just wasn't common.
