I played quite a bit of Humankind recently I think the AI really needs some work. But this weekend I bought Old World (lunar sale + $10 coupon)

which is similar style to CIV but adds quite a bit more RPG elements. Your "character" can die during the course of the game and your nation is then passed to your heir. Who that is and how they act is very much up to how you operate in the game. Lots of storyline elements. It is more medieval tech focused but so far I find the game pretty interesting. It has a LOT of gameplay elements though so like CIV6, a lot to digest
