I'm not sure about costs, but the downtown is pretty compact, and there are a bunch of places on Hollis

the only one I have personally stayed in is the Sheraton, which was a nice normal hotel. That and the others around it will put you right at The Boardwalk Waterfront.
The ones by Cogswell are a little less close to things other than the casino, but seem to be cheaper.
There's also some in the area of South Park and Spring Garden (the Lord Nelson), which I believe are a little pricier. That's right next to the Public Gardens and the Citadel and more of a shopping area, but nothing is truly far from anywhere here if you're talking downtown. The ones on Hollis are at the bottom of the hill, the ones on South Park at the top of the hill, which is decently steep.
