I should have been more clear -- the initiator of attacks rarely wins.
Falklands ... was a return to status quo after Britain took back their lands; repelling the invasion forces in time.
Grenada was a skirmish between the biggest dog on the block and a teacup poodle. If we didn't win that in days, we should have folded up tent right away.
Desert Storm 1 -- returned to the status quo -- best operation possible and the gold standard for the world community. The guys in charge also understood, a return to status quo with limits was as far as they could go. In large part, they didn't have the authority or stomach for a protracted guerrilla war that would have resulted.
