Almost certainly what they must be contemplating: Russia will close their airspace right back, making many US-Asia flights quite a bit longer.

The US airlines are probably begging DC to NOT close our airspace to Russia. I'm not sure how much Russia even needs to fly over our airspace. But US airline flights to Asia definitely fly over Russia in many cases.
