Check out the case rate before Omicron and during Omicron for South Korea. Singapore and Hong Kong are similar. No covid for two years before then Omicron hit, and it's massive amounts.

I really don't think precautions like masking and social distancing would have done much to prevent the Omicron covid surge in Canada.
