Iirc nickel is vital in munitions (and carbon fiber jet wing mold forms) as it makes better cannons, machine gun barrels

A friend was a Boeing engineer, he was working on formulations for molds for carbon fiber wings that would not change shape as it heated to cook the composition and said Napoleon discovered nickel made great cannons that could fire many times more than plain iron without deforming,cooling.
