but it still sounds like they're doing it wrong - they lowered the GST at the wrong time ...

Martin's improvements to the bottom line couldn't be maintained, but the Conservatives stuck to their GST promise all the same. Which, sure, it's great that they stuck to it - but it was not fortuitous timing.
