Thanks for the "untold" vs. "untolled" thoughts on B3. It was an MJ showbizdata headline about "untold millions" which set me wondering.

It seems "untold," in addition to counting for "not yet having been related," also takes the spot where "not having been recognized," "tolled for," might have sprung into use, leaving "untolled" free to do its work with fee-free highways.

I love the way one-syllable words like "tell" and "told" (and "put," my favourite) can shed their familiar aspect and suddenly seem weird and opaque.
