Basically exactly like your browser does (generates passwords, stores them, offers them to you in login boxes)

Think of them like an encrypted spreadsheet that you unlock with a master key, and then copy the passwords out of as you need them. -- nm

Generally speaking, yes though occasionally one will not support it. LastPass integrates with iOS the same way the built in iOS password manager does

For iOS it really depends on how they implement the login for the app.
