The thing I found is that while apps and such are neat, I primarily interact with the smart home via voice or automation (both which Alexa handles)

I rarely find myself wanting to pull out the app to interact with it like a dashboard or even "see" information about the system. That might be different if I had more sensors.
Usually it is "Alexa, turn on the lights" or "Alexa, make the living room blue" or "Alexa, goodnight" or my favorite "Alexa, let's cook" which turns on all our under counter lights in the kitchen + the stove light and the over the sink light.
