I just think it's pretty specific and will hit people in different ways (spoils)

For me, in large part it was because my daughter (who I went to the movie with) is deeply nihilistic. We have spent hours discussing and debating this. She described the movie as the best 2 hours of therapy she's had, in large part because it didn't dissuade her nihilism, but offered a path to still being able to find some happiness within it. I can also see how some people would find it simplistic, but it hit a sweet spot for her and for me. I think it speaks more to the viewer than the filmmaker. He made a very specific and unique movie with a distinct point of view, but for some people it will resonate more than others.
