In some ways, in this day and age the use of it here almost made it worse because it seems to normalize these relationships and to some degree further

Marginalize women. Oh, it’s ok because women are powerless and don’t have the ability to groom young boys. And further that here the boy was the aggressor so the powerless adult woman couldn’t help but be attracted to the young boy. And on the other hand it normalizes these relationships by raising the argument that if it’s ok for older women it should just be ok generally. Scripting it this way seems to be trying to make a point and none of them are good.
