There are definitely ways to promote something without print or video advertising, but I'm not sure of specific examples beyond yours.

Tesla actively, to the tune of millions of dollars, promoted their products through their referral program that awarded free cars along with other items.
But, and the reason I may not be familiar, what you're asking about isn't something that would be super apparent to the public.
