In response to "Poll: Who was the earliest-born person you knew fairly well in person?" by Max

My grandmother was born in rural Ireland circa 1908 and later raised a family in the Bronx.

She passed when I was a freshman in college.

Both of my grandfather's passed away before I was born, 'Grandpa Bill' was my cousin's grandpa (no relation to me) who lived on our block when I was very young. He was born in the Kerry regional of Ireland before moving to the US and raising a family in the Bronx. Her was my surrogate grandfather basically

And that's how how I went through much of my young life thinking all old people spoke with a brogue. Like , you hit grandparent age and your speaking just changes. Because all the old people I knew had Irish brogues.
