MST3K episode 1303 Beyond Atlantis: A-

This was the debut of new test subject Emily Connor (Emily Marsh), and new voices for the bots (Connor McGiffin as Tom Servo, Kelsey Ann Brady as Crow*, Yvonne Freese as GPC) as they watched Beyond Atlantis, an absolutely insane movie starring Patrick Wayne and Sid Haig.

The setup as to how this season involves multiple test subjects (Jonah was featured in the previous two episodes) trapped by Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day) and Max (Patton Oswalt) to watch cheesy movies was pretty clever. This cast performed two live tours so they’re not newbies and definitely have fantastic chemistry at this point, and that translated very well from the live show to the new episodes, in both the host segments and the riffing. I’m looking forward to so much more from this team over the season.

The Gizmoplex opens to the public in May 6!

*in the live tour, and in multiple promotional events/livestreams/Kickstarter events, Crow was played by Nate Begle. In mid February, Nate deleted his social media without fanfare, and when the IGN article previewing the season came out, it was noticed that Crow was credited as Kelsey Ann Brady. There was an announcement on the official forums that Nate was no longer involved with the show. There are no further details, and we are all hoping it wasn’t on bad terms as he was very funny as Crow. Kelsey was the swing understudy on the recent live tour, filing in as Crow for dates if Nate or Connor were unavailable. Her Crow was a little surprising to hear, people compared it to sounding like Millhouse on The Simpsons, but I’ll get used to it. The odd thing is that most of Team Emily’s episodes were filmed last fall prior to the crew going on the live tour, so Crow’s riffs were re-recorded with Kelsey instead of Nate. I’m sure if you’re looking closely you could tell, but it seemed fairly seamless.
