I always got my cats from someone or from vets I know so I had no idea how high the adoption fees can be.

I was looking at these two kittens and the adoption fee is $400 for the pair. Apparently that's normal.
I'm not sure what I expected it to be but that was much more than what I figured.

I paid $200 for Phoebe in 2021 from a rescue. They ensure they are fixed, chipped and healthy. (and she qualified as a senior, she was 8. -- (edited)

My local cat shelter is $200 for kittens, $40 for adults. Often they’ll have free adult cat weekends. -- nm

Does that include shots, chip, and neutering? I got my two during a special event and got all that for $25 each. Would have cost way more if

It kind of defeats the whole purpose when it comes down to it with kitties. I wouldn’t adopt myself. I’d Craigslist it first. -- nm

Interesting. Around here they aren't much more than $50. often fees are reduced or waived for adult cats. It's the dogs that have the high fees. -- nm
