It's something called the Northern Ireland Protocol.

It's basically a border between the England/Scotland/Wales and Northern Ireland, a protocol instituted by which Ireland and Northern Ireland are closer (by not having border checks) and Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK are farther apart (by having border checks), and the DUP - understandably - would prefer it were the opposite.
Of course, good luck with that! EU is probably laughing at the prospect of the UK asking to re-open Brexit talks.
