I think the positional value at TE is probably better.

Look at past drafts if you can to see what defenses were drafted when and where they finished.
I still think defenses are very undervalued in Blood Feud, but an expected middle of the pack defense in your top 3 picks is too early. I can't think of a scoring system where that makes sense.
