So the small claims case (now approaching a year old) was supposed to have a final judgment next week, but then I get this email.

Tim, interesting development. I just found out that the town court justice presiding over our case, [REDACTED], is also the plaintiff’s attorney in a couple of other unrelated cases that I am handling. As such I have grounds to request that she recuse herself from our case. However the downside to that is that it will delay our case further, and she is familiar with our case and the facts. The other judge could also be not very good. I have spoken with her and she changed the trial date on 6/2 to a conference date to let her know of our decision of whether to proceed with her, or ask her to recuse herself. She states that she can be fair and impartial but this is obviously our call.
Let me know what you prefer to do.

I'm tempted to just say it's fine, but given my dealings with the landlord (a total Karen), I would absolutely NOT put it past her to find a way to retain the judge in her primary day job as an attorney in some other legal matter in an attempt to convince her to decide in her favor in this case. I should probably ask for a recusal, right?
