What I've heard is that some folks internally are pushing for a massive theatrical release, because they know the financials do not work for Netflix, and that the stock price will decrease further. Problem is, Netflix doesn't have a deal with theater chains because their window is too small. netflix needs the chains more than they need Netflix, so lots of internal drama.

Simply put: Netflix cannot keep making $200M movies that do nothing to subscriber numbers.
