my friend had a birth-daughter who now identifies as a he.
She too is okay with this (mostly, she has a hard time with it in that she feels like she 'lost' her daughter, but she is getting counselling because she knows that's her issue to deal with.)
The hardest part for my friend is remembering to use the new name. She says when she gets annoyed (because, teenager) she tends to revert to the birth name.
It isn't easy, even for supportive people.
