Which is what got them fired, they kept Elvis up all night, management didn't like that.
how they got the job was a cool story, they had a long term gig at Knotts berry farm where they had to accept challenges from the audience to play any country song requested, they had a huge library of music in the back that someone would scramble to get.
so they knew a wide range of appalachian gospel since there were a lot of oakies in so cal.
someone in elvis team wanted a gospel americana bluegrass band, he rented a restaurant, the whole place in palm springs for the interview, after playing a few tunes Elvis asked them if they knew, they sure did, he threw a half dozen old timey tunes and they knew most of them.
so they became the first bluegrass band to open a vegas show.
