1). Glen Powell out-arrogant asshole’s Val Kilmer from TG1. If you lab-designed arrogant fighter jockey, he’s the outcome.
2) Jennifer Connelly looks amazing, even if her character was a bit thin in characterization.
3). The plane scenes were amazing. The scene with Tom Cruise doing his speed run was exhilarating.
4) I laughed a ton when the 5th-Gen fighter did that little vertical cartwheel and Miles Teller dropped the 1 f-bomb because let’s be realistic. If you see a fighter jet dodge a missile by doing a gymnastics move…what the fuck was that is a perfectly valid and encouraged question.
5).similar to 3, I loved that they didn’t pretty up the flight scenes. It was both amazing what was happening but also jarringly realistic seeing these pretty people (and Bill Pullman’s kid) turned into silly putty because of physics.
6) I loved Val Kilmer’s scene. It was poignant and heartfelt while also being funny with the question about better pilot.
Seriously, A+ movie with just the right dose of nostalgia but new and great contemporary stuff.
