pieces together and making it clear that they have more than we knew and seeing glimpses of testimony was powerful as opposed to just seeing something in a news article. Hour 2, while fairly well done, still felt more performative. I understand the visceral and emotional reaction to the details of the actual attack and the harm it caused to capitol police officers, but I think we all knew that already and in the grand scheme of things it's the things leading up to it that are the bigger deal. We know what happened at the capitol. I do think they they were also laying groundwork for the involvement of the Oathkeepers and Proud Boys and I expect them to connect them to Trump's orbit, so it wasn't meaningless, but I don't think we needed to spend that time on the CPD officer. The most important pieces of this hearing need to focus on the spreading of the big lie, the fact that Trump and his orbit knew it was a lie and how they conspired to overturn the election, including the events on Jan. 6. I think most of that is going to be covered in daytime hearing which I think is disappointing. But overall I think it was pretty powerful and hopefully it continues to build. Biggest things I think came out of yesterday was that they were told repeatedly that what they were doing was not permitted by the constitution or legal, that several congresspeople asked for pardons in the aftermath (showing that they knew it was illegal) and a hint of the extent to which Trump knew what he was doing and was getting exactly what he wanted.
