1) it will artificially increase the cost of all energy, which will be passed on to us, the taxpayers and consumers. there is no disputing this.. obama even said it in a speech: energy costs will necissarily skyrocket.
2) it is mandating innovation/invention. BP already put billions into solar power and determined it does not work in its current state and is not a viable long term solution. you cannot force invention. it's happening as it happens. you have to prove an energy source works, then implement it, not the other way around.
3) there are numerous weird items like: putting regulations on wood burning and pellet burning stoves (why?), raising the lumens per watt output for all lights including theater lighting (again, on what basis? are they really destroying the world?), on and on little things like that.
4) the nationwide energy audits/upgrade requirements. that's insane. homes in florida do not have the same requirements as a home in montana. it will jack up the prices of homes trying to be sold and make it harder for the already bad home market. in addition, these standards can change at any time - you can make all the upgrades, and then they change and you're fucked.
5) the bill isn't finished. it isn't. the text does not exist for a lot of regulary sections on nuclear power, etc. how could the house have voted on a bill that isn't complete? this is too costly and too important to be rushed through like this. a 300 page change added in the middle of the night the day of the vote.. what the crap?
you might say that we need to "bite the bullet" to fight global warming, but there still is no hard evidence that it's happening. a concensus does not mean it's fact, or that there's even a majority in agreement. the only thing this bill will do is cost us money, and drive businesses (and jobs) out of the US by virtue of the high taxes and carbon offset requirements.
go read the bill.. then tell me if you agree with it. in the end, cap and trade won't even come into the picture, just regulation upon regulation that doesn't need to exist.
