during the steroid trial, WWE hired Jerry Jarrett, Jeff's father, to run the company in Vince's absence. It never came to pass since the unlikely happened, and Vince escaped jail time.

There's a real chance WWE just hired Jeff for the same reason. Vince both despises and deeply respects the Jarretts.
