The protest could be about any number of things - vegan activism, animal cruelty in Smithfield's farms and factories, etc - but there's a documentary around called The Smell of Money which is focussed on Smithfield's environmental practices (chemical emissions, spraying waste into nearby fields and streams) and its impacts on the health and wellbeing of nearby residents - who in general are poor, and not white.
