Coming from IT. Agree most the advice given here is the best avenue to take.
1) Raises, bonuses and such are never a guarantee. Regardless of how well the work gets done. Some get used to it over several years if it happens annually (re my last job for the first 8 years, both went away over time).
2) The be grateful approach is best to take with the boss. Welcome having the job and the income you already have. The stability is nice too, not everyone has that.
3) If over $100k salary already, 20% can be a big ask. You also don't want to price yourself out of the market. (Why pay this guy 20% more, when I can hire someone else for 20% less?)
4) Just be cool with the discussion, 11% isn't bad even if that's all. Better than 0%. The what I can do to make extra ("benefit the company more") is a good tact to take. Maybe something comes out that usually wouldn't have been said. And definitely have the discussion in person. texting can come across weird on this stuff.
5) Job Search - Can always look at other jobs in the Marketplace and what they're making. Could setup a job move should you feel the opportunity is there. Maybe network a bit if you know some peeps.
6) Grass is not always greener - Mo' Money, Mo Problems. Are taking on additional Headaches/issues worth the extra green.
