You would think with all that's going on in the world that there would be more interest in Bastille Day...

Francis Ford Coppola had restored most of a lost silent movie "Napoleon" one of the biggest box office failures of all time... this movie was but part one of 5, even at six hours or more. They hand colored some segments, frame by frame. The biggest reason it disappeared was that they had this complicated 3 projector showing, sometimes being a super panorama, sometimes showing different parts of the story (kids throwing snow balls, people getting hit by them etc) This would have required quite an investment by movie theatres who would have had to buy additional projectors just to show the movie.

This...the same time that *talkies* were invented. what would you do if you had a theater, buy two more silent projectors or the newest thing, SOUND....yeah...

the movie was partly restored by finding bits of reels in storage, in that alaskan landfill so many old movies were dumped in.

I just remember it because I had just receieved a credit card, yeah some financial institution gave me one and I went out and mastered the possiblities, the premier showing the movie was going to be at the San Fran opera house. I went down to get tickets, but they were all sold out, live orchestra, francis was going to introduce it, the social event of the season.... but... they had some box seats availabe but I had to buy the whole box section, six tickets. $300 a fvckton of money on credit.

So that's how I, my GF and her husband (don't ask) a roommate etc saw the film,

of Napoleon just before and during the french revolution, off with their head....in the most Bouggie place on the west coast.

I think I'm still paying interest on those tickets.
