I'm not surprised. My doctor told me today that the vaccines don't really help anymore other than to help keep you out of the hospital.

They do not help keep you from getting the new variant. And from his experience, he has not had a patient die of covid in 8 months. He has had people get sick but it's usually very mild. He had an 88 year old patient with severe chronic lung disease who is already on oxygen get Covid, and they were fine after a few days.
Of course, everyone's mileage will vary. And vaccines will help it from being a bad infection, but at this point I'm not sure requiring the old vaccines are worth it. But that can change once they have a new vaccine which will help with the new variant. But at this point, Covid seems to be the new flu which will be around forever and you may or may not get it.
