I love separate buckets. But as a government employee, our sick time can be use towards our retirement. It's not an exact 1:1 convert, but

X amount of sick time can be used to retire earlier. Vacation usually just cashes out.
Plus I max out at 240 vacation hours a year. Anything over that rolls to sick time. And which Covid prevent much travel, I'm just banking my times. Normally I take about a month off every couple years for a giant trip.
